The Weil-Winfield Residence Hall, designed by W. C. Holleyman of Greensboro, North Carolina, opened in 1939. On June 7, 1941, the building was named in honor of Mina Rosenthal Weil, a strong supporter of the College, and Martha Elizabeth Winfield (Class of 1906), a member of the English Department faculty from 1906 to 1936.
