Since its opening in 1892, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has taught a variety of science course including physics and astronomy through its Department of Science. In 1900, the Department of Chemistry and Physics was established and a year later was split to form a sperate Department of Physics. In 1985, the Department of Physics expanded its curriculum and became the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
