Dr. Peggye Dilworth- Anderson attended Tuskegee Institute were she received her B.A. in Sociology in 1970. She later received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University. In 1988, Dr. Dilworth-Anderson was hired by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies and taught Family, Theory, Aging and Black Families. In the same year, she was also appointed by the President to the National Council on Family Relations to serve as chair of the Ethnic Minority Issues Committee.
At UNCG she served on the Committee for selecting the Vice-Chancellor (1989-1990) and the social and behavioral science curriculum committee. In addition to campus committees, she was involved in numerous professional organizations such as the Gerontological Society of America, National Council on Family Relations and the American Sociological Society. Dr. Dilworth-Anderson became the Chair of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies in 1994. In recognition of contributions to her field, she received the 1998 Marie Peters Award for Outstanding Research on Ethnic Minority Families from the National Council on Family Relations. The following year she was named the Elizabeth Rosenthal Excellence Professor at UNCG.
