Lucy Owen Robertson (1850-1930)

Born in Warrenton, NC, and educated at the Chowan Baptist Female Institute (now Chowan University), Lucy Owen Robertson arrived at State Normal in 1893 as the head of the History Department. She had previously taught at Greensboro Female College, and, in 1900, she returned to Greensboro Female Collegeas its lady principal. Two years later, she was named president of Greensboro Female College, reportedly becoming the first woman president of any college in the South.
