Charles Prall

Charles Prall was Dean of the School of Education at the Woman’s College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) from 1949 until his retirement in 1958. He received his A.B. degree from the University of Iowa in 1912 and would go on to served four different rural school districts in Iowa as Superintendent of Schools from 1912 to 1927. Returning to graduate work during this time, he received his A.M. in 1926, and his Ph.D. in 1928, both from the University of Chicago. After working as a research professor in education at the University of Arkansas from 1928-29, Prall was named Dean of the College of Education there. In 1934, Prall left Arkansas to become Dean of the College of Education at the University of Pittsburgh.  From 1939 to 1944 he served as field coordinator for the teacher’s commission of the American Council on Education. He would also act as the director of the Commission on Education of the American College of Hospital Administrators and the American Hospital Association from 1945 until his coming to the Woman’s College in 1949. He died in 1964, at the age of 72.
