David Reilly

David Reilly was Dean of the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) from 1974 to 1986. Reilly came to UNCG from UNC-Chapel Hill where he had been the chair of the psychology program in the School of Education since 1966. Reilly received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Vermont in 1959, and both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Educational Psychology from Rutgers University, in 1962 and 1965, respectively. Reilly resigned as Dean of the School of Education at UNCG upon receiving a Fulbright Grant for research abroad in Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey for the 1986-1987 academic year. Upon his return, he resumed duties as a Professor in the School of Education. During Reilly’s tenure as Dean, the School of Education inaugurated two major centers, the Center for Educational Research and Evaluation, and the Center for Educational Studies and Development. Again, in 1990, under a Fulbright grant, Reilly was a visiting lecturer at Tbilisi State University in Tbilisi in the then Soviet Union (now in the Republic of Georgia). Reilly retired from UNCG in 1992, but soon accepted an appointment as Graduate Dean at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.
