UNCG started its International Studies Program in 1997. In 2006, the name of the International Studies Program was changed to the Department of International and Global Studies. Today the department offers 6 concentrations: International and Global Affairs and Development, International and Global Arts Belief Systems, International and Global Human Rights, Asian Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Russian Studies.
As of 2023, the International Studies Program has moved under the Department of Liberal and Professional Studies, and is offered as a major.
