In 1985, UNCG introduced its Department of Educational Administration, Higher Education, and Educational Research in the School of Education. Three years later, in 1988, the Department of Educational Research became independent. The Departments converged again in 1991 creating the Department of Educational Administration, Higher Education, and Educational research. By 1993, the Departments separated again therefore creating the Department of Educational Research Methodology. As of 2016 the Department of Educational Research Methodology offers two Masters of Science degrees and one Doctor of Philosophy Degree.
In 2023 the Department of Educational Research Methodology’s associated programs were placed within the Department of Information, Library, and Research Sciences. Currently, there are M.S., combined M.S. and PhD, and PhD degrees offered within the program.
