A Greensboro native, Angela “Angie” Polk-Jones was a member of the UNCG Women’s Basketball team from 1985-1989 and was an Early Childhood Education major.  As a member of the women’s basketball team, Polk-Jones was named a First Team All America, became the Spartan’s all-time leading scorer with 1,585 points and led her team to the Division III Final Four.  In 1989, she became the first athlete at UNCG (men’s or women’s athletics) to have her jersey number retired (34).  In addition, she was also a part of the first class inducted into UNCG’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.

Polk-Jones was the head basketball coach at Grimsley High School for eight years and served as an assistant coach at UNCG for three seasons.  Polk-Jones has been a part of the Guilford County education system since 1990 and, as of 2015, is the principal of The Middle College at UNCG.
